MARIBOR CITY PARK AND THE THREE PONDS
Maribor City Park is the largest City Park in Slovenija. You can find beautiful kids’ playgrounds, many benches to rest on, fountains, pavilions, and beautiful old trees to admire. Many of the trees in the park are over 140 years old and, since 1976, the area is protected as a landscape monument.
Part of the park is also 3 beautiful ponds. In the past, the three ponds served as water reserves that supplied the town’s defense moat. Today the three ponds are artificially made lakes, filled with water from the nearest brooks.
The first pond has a beautiful fountain. The second pond is an artificial island for nesting ducks and swans. Three small boats were made and will soon float on the second pond to row around and enjoy the beautiful silence of the trees and waters. They will start to rent the boats in the spring of 2023.
Many of the trees in the park are over 140 years old and, since 1976, the area is protected as a landscape monument.
Walking through the park, there are beautiful paths and some of them lead through the forest and will take you to the Kalvarija hill on one side. While on the other side of the park, there is a pathway through vineyards leading you to the city hill called Piramida, from where you can expect a marvelous view of the whole city, the wine hills, and Pohorje.
