From there it’s an easy thirty-minute walk to Črno jezero (Black Lake). The rare plant habitats will amaze you. Sink in a dreamy land of peat mosses, quietness, forests, and a remarkable climate with pure fresh air as you can only find it in unspoiled nature! The lake is overgrown with pine and peat moss.

For years, organic waste from dead plants and animals has accumulated at the bottom of the lake and, over time, creating a thick layer of silt, a dark, black color. Due to this, the lake looks as it is full of ink, although the water is crystal clear. With its forest surroundings, Black Lake is protected as a forest reserve.

What to do in Maribor

Maribor is a city of significant importance in Slovenia, serving as the second largest city in the country. The city has a rich history, with its first recorded mention as a castle dating back to 1164, and its development as a settlement in 1209. Maribor was granted town privileges in 1254 and has since grown to encompass an area of 40.98 square km. It is not big, but big enough for 113,778 inhabitants that call Maribor their home town.

In Štajerska we don’t say ‘Keep the change’ we say ‘Vreji je’ and I think that’s beautiful.
